I have quite a bit to say about the end times in general, but I only have about 6 minutes left in my lunch hour, so I'll be REALLY brief. I was talking to a buddy of mine on Facebook chat, and we were discussing the end of the world and the Mayan predictions that the world is going to end December 21st, 2012.
The end of the world is a really cool discussion that gets brought up a LOT, and in my opinion, is often over-discussed. HOWEVER, I also think it's kind of cool that people keep the idea that this world is temporal in the back of their heads. Even if the world doesn't end, your life will, eventually. What are you doing with the time you have?
If the end of the world happened in 2012, what would your accomplishments be? "I saw every episode of American Idol and voted every week!" Or, "I one time at 5 dozen wings at Buffalo Wild Wings!" Or, how about, "I married a cheerleader!" (Ok, so I did that one... and that will be one of my greatest accomplishments, but not because she was a cheerleader. Anyway... I digress...)
I personally want what Solomon talks about in Ecclesiastes. If you've never read it and you're depressed, it may not be the best read for you, but it has some amazing messages. The biggest theme through the book is, "Everything is meaningless, a chasing after the wind." Like I said, not for the depressed. BUT, at the end he concludes that the only really worthwhile thing is to do things for God that will change a person's life. As a close pastor friend of mine says, "if when we accept Jesus into our hearts we are bound for Heaven, why doesn't He take us to Heaven right then and there? It's because He wants us to reach people HERE."
Like I said, I wanted to keep this one brief (hey, compared to some of my others this is pretty tiny!) Time to get back to work. Hmm... how can I honor God while I work? I'd better get cracking - I only have about 4 1/2 years left, it appears.
